Just before Christmas, a trio of captains at Cumberwell golf club turned up to give £20,000 to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group (BCUSG).

Full of the festive spirit, Robin Allen, club captain, Gail Love, ladies captain, and Steve Roberts, seniors captain, dropped into the BCUSG’s pop-up shop in the Shires with news of their donation.

To gather the money that made up the donation, the captains at the Bradford on Avon-based club combined each of the various fundraising projects they had run throughout the year.

Steve Roberts said: “Every captain at the club adopts a charity and last year we all decided to combine our fundraising efforts and donate to the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group who raise money for specialised equipment at the hospital”.

Sue Oliver, vice chair of the BCUSG, said: “This is a tremendous boost to our fund raising which we will forward onto the Hospital and we hope to also add more from the many hundreds of pounds we raise from our pop-up shop here in the Shires.”

Set up over Christmas, the pop-up shop proved a quick success, soon appealing to members of the public for donations.
