The Minnesota Timberwolves have been on a roll for the past few games.

It appears they’ve finally found some chemistry with one another. Although they’ve looked good the past few games, they remain just one game above .500. Most attribute their newfound success to Anthony Edwards’ recent “soft” comments about the team.

While things are going great now, Tim Bontemps of ESPN reports that the Wolves will be a “potential player” on the trade market. 

“That’s why Minnesota has been labeled by league decision-makers as a potential player between now and the Feb. 6 trade deadline. Yes, the Wolves are coming off comfortable victories against the reeling Lakers and shorthanded Clippers, but they have higher aspirations than battling for the last play-in spot, which is where they currently sit,” Bontemps wrote.

This isn’t just Bontemps forming his own opinion out of thin air. He has talked with NBA scouts around the league who all feel this way. According to Bontemps, one scout told him:

“Just because you’re trading for talent, it has to be the right fit. They have to learn and adjust. Making a trade that late [right before training camp] is hard. So I’m empathetic.”

If the Wolves are indeed players in the trade market prior to the deadline, they will have a variety of players who could garner interest. The first names would likely be newly acquired players Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo. They’ve both been rumored to be trade targets because they haven’t been consistent since joining Minnesota. 

Another option would be center Rudy Gobert. He is coming off arguably the best game of his career, but he hasn’t been consistent either. Recent comments from Kevin Garnett have sparked the conversation that perhaps the Wolves traded the wrong player. 

While things seem to be going great now, the fact remains the Wolves had high expectations coming into this season. To be clawing their way for a play-in NBA Playoff spot wasn’t on the agenda.
