SUGAR LAND – The ACU Wildcats are back in action after a near-month-long layoff as they play in the Houston Christian-Colin Montgomerie Invitational on Monday and Tuesday.
The Wildcats are part of a 15-team field in the tournament, which will be played at the par-72, 7,051-yard Sweetwater Country Club-Cypress Course. The teams will play 36 holes on Monday, followed by a final 18 holes on Tuesday.
ACU – ranked No. 120 in the country in the latest SCOREBOARD Powered by clippd rankings – joins No. 49 as the two highest-ranked teams in the field. Also in the field is the defending tournament champion New Mexico Junior College, which is ranked No. 8 in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I rankings. Also in the field are Houston Christian, Weber State, Texas Southern, Incarnate Word, Missouri State, Prairie View A&M, Central Michigan, North Dakota, Nicholls, Southeastern Louisiana, East Texas A&M, and Blinn College.
Senior Jaime Lewis, junior Gregoire Hoyeau, freshman Colin Leonard, freshman Jack Hollingsed, and sophomore Preston DeFriend will represent the Wildcats.
The Wildcats have been solid to start the spring season with back-to-back fourth-place finishes at the Los Vaqueros Invitational (Feb. 2-4) in Cancun, Mexico, and at the Bentwater Intercollegiate (Feb. 10-11) in Montgomery, Texas.
From 2016 to 19, ACU participated in the Colin Montgomerie Invitational, winning the tournament title in 2018 and finishing seventh the other three years.
