This Saturday, No. 3 Texas football and head coach Steve Sarkisian take on the Kentucky Wildcats on Senior Day at DKR in Austin. One of the big questions for Texas entering Senior Day is which underclassmen will enter the 2025 NFL Draft early next spring, most notably junior quarterback Quinn Ewers.
The expectation for Ewers was that he would declare early for the 2025 NFL Draft next offseason. Ewers returned to Texas for the 2024 season to hone in on the fundamentals and boost his stock in the eyes of the NFL scouts for the NFL Draft.
According to Horns247 (paid content), Ewers is “expected” to enter the 2025 NFL Draft early, making the matchup against Kentucky this weekend his final regular season game at DKR in Austin.
With 30 career starts under his belt at Texas, Ewers has the necessary experience and feedback from scouts and information from the 2025 NFL Draft to know the best path to make his draft decision for next offseason.
Here are three reasons why it is the right decision for Ewers to enter the 2025 NFL Draft next spring.
In his 30 starts at Texas since 2022, Ewers has a record of 23-7. He’s got a winning pedigree at Texas, including an 18-3 record as a starting quarterback since the start of 2023.
Ewers wanted to lead Texas to an SEC Championship and a College Football Playoff National Championship when he returned to Texas for the 2024 season. Those two goals are still in front of the Longhorns, with potential wins against Kentucky and the rival Texas A&M Aggies on the road during Thanksgiving week over the next two weeks.
When he’s been fully healthy, Ewers has consistently shown he can win big games against ranked opponents in the past two seasons. Since 2023, Ewers is 5-1 against ranked foes at road and neutral site games.
He’s risen to the occasion multiple times in big games in non-conference play for the Longhorns against stout defenses. He threw for nearly 600 passing yards combined, six passing touchdowns, and no interceptions in non-conference road wins for the Longhorns against Alabama in Week 2 in the 2023 season and Week 2 against Michigan in Week 2 this fall.
In those games against Michigan and Alabama since 2023, Ewers showed the ability to touch every blade of grass on the field with impressive deep ball, off-platform, and on-target throws while climbing the pocket under pressure.
