PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Ludvig Aberg withdrew from the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Friday, citing illness.
After finishing as runner-up of the weather-shortened event last year, the 25-year-old Swede was among the betting favorites this week and a popular choice in fantasy golf circles. Last week, Aberg shot 64 at Torrey Pines on the North Course to hold the first-round lead at the Farmers Insurance Open, but suffered from flu-like symptoms, and was seen vomiting on the course. He gutted out the final three rounds but tumbled to a T-42 finish.
Aberg, ranked No. 6 in the Official World Golf Ranking, opened with 5-over 77 in the opening round of the signature event at Spyglass Hill Golf Course, suggesting he was still under the weather. He was scheduled to play at Pebble Beach Golf Links alongside Rory McIlroy on Friday but withdrew prior to the round. His pro-am partner, former Tour policy board member Jimmy Dunne, will now play with Cypress Point head professional Casey Reamer.
Aberg was making his third start of the season.
