As the NBA season inches closer, NBA 2K has rolled out its latest set of player ratings. The video game has built up immense popularity over the last decade-plus, and this has led to its annual player rating reveal becoming a staple in the NBA calendar.
The Top 100 for 2K25 officially dropped earlier this week, and I’m sure it’s bound to stir up some debates. If one thing is for sure, however, the top of the list is a great reminder of how wickedly talented the league currently is.
I’ll drop every player who received a rating of 90 or better below.
1. Nikola Jokic – 97
2. Luka Doncic – 97
3. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 97
4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – 96
5. Joel Embiid – 96
6. LeBron James – 95
7. Stephen Curry – 95
8. Jayson Tatum – 95
9. Kevin Durant – 94
10. Anthony Davis – 94
11. Anthony Edwards – 93
12. Devin Booker – 93
13. Jalen Brunson – 93
14. Donovan Mitchell – 92
15. Jaylen Brown – 92
16. Kyrie Irving – 92
17. Kawhi Leonard – 92
18. Victor Wembanyama – 91
19. Tyrese Haliburton – 90
20. Ja Morant – 90
A total of 20 players finished with a 90 overall or better. Some notable names who failed to miss the cut were Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, Paolo Banchero, and Paul George (all finished with an 89). Out of those players, both Lillard and Butler saw their ratings drop by five or more points from the previous year, per the 2K Ratings database.
Still, I’m not sure this top 20 list comes with any major shocks. A case could be made that Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown should be closer, especially after Brown took home the Finals MVP award in the Celtics championship victory. However, we all know Tatum remains the 1A in that organization. As for Shai Gilegous-Alexander sitting ahead of names like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kevin Durant, it may turn some casual heads, but OKC sat at the top of the West last year because of him. SGA has turned the Thunder into true title contenders.
The only other name that undoubtedly feels worth mentioning here is Victor Wembanyama. Despite playing only one year in the NBA, the 20-year-old is already receiving a superstar-like rating. He earned a 7-point bump from last season. And, if we’re being honest, I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends this season with an even higher rating in the game.
Anyway, if you’re wondering how many names I’d have to write before getting to a Chicago Bulls player, the answer is 62. Zach LaVine is the first to show up with an 83 overall, which is a three-point drop from NBA 2K24. In case you’re wondering, DeMar DeRozan is the 35th-highest-rated player with an 87 overall. Ouch!
