If the Ohio State women want to host in the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament, a victory over No. 9 Iowa in the Big Ten Tournament is necessary for the No. 3 seeded Buckeyes.
Ohio State (24-5, 13-5 in Big Ten) fell out of multiple major NCAA Tournament bracketology’s top-16 rankings following a 93-90 loss in overtime to Maryland to close the regular season. The top 16 teams granted hosting rights for tournament’s first and second rounds.
Last season, the Buckeyes were knocked out in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 1 seed, falling to Maryland 82-61.
A repeat of that early exit will put Ohio State out of the conversation to host.
“We will really try to take it one day at a time, one game at a time,” Ohio State coach Kevin McGuff said. “Put all our focus into this first game, and then hopefully we can survive.”
