OXFORD — Ole Miss football’s biggest win this season comes with tremendous benefits.
The Rebels (8-2, 4-2 SEC) beat Georgia 28-10 in Week 11 in what was a signature win for coach Lane Kiffin. It boosted the Rebels in the latest College Football Playoff ranking that came out Tuesday night.
Ole Miss is up to No. 11. It’s an improvement from last week, when Ole Miss was No. 16 and projected on the outside of the bracket.
There is more space in the new 12-team CFP format debuting this season. Five bids are reserved for the five highest-ranked conference champions. The top four of those teams get byes. The next seven highest-ranked at-large team also earn a spot in the CFP.
If the current scenario holds, Ole Miss would play at No. 4 Penn State in the first round. The winner would travel to play at No. 6 BYU for a second-round matchup.
Ole Miss is entering an open week. The Rebels will close the season at Florida (4-5, 2-4) and hosting Mississippi State (2-8, 0-6).
