Phoenix Suns took a huge step in winning NBA Cup West Group B with Tuesday’s 127-100 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers at Footprint Center, but still have more work to be done – and still need some help.
Four teams still have just one loss in West Group B.
The San Antonio Spurs (10-8), Suns (10-7) and Lakers (10-7) are each 2-1 in group play. The Oklahoma City Thunder (13-4) are 1-1 while the Utah Jazz (4-13) are 0-3 and have been eliminated.
Phoenix hosts the Spurs Dec. 3. If the Suns beat San Antonio and Oklahoma City loses to either the Lakers on Friday or the Jazz on Tuesday, the Suns will win Group B.
OKC plays at Los Angeles and faces Utah at home.
If the Suns lose to the Spurs and the Lakers beat the Thunder, then the Lakers will win Group B. The Lakers will have beaten OKC and San Antonio.
The tiebreakers are as follows:
The Houston Rockets (13-6) have already clinched West Group A while the Golden State Warriors (12-5) have won West Group C. Both teams are 3-0 in their respective groups.
Phoenix reached the quarterfinals in last season’s inaugural In-Season Tournament as a wild card, but the Lakers beat the Suns in quarterfinals at home.
The Suns then hosted Sacramento to fill out their 82-game schedule as the Kings fell to the New Orleans Pelicans in the quarterfinals. Sacramento topped Phoenix, 114-106.
