There’s one NFL opportunity that would intrigue Deion Sanders enough to possibly leave Colorado.
It just doesn’t exist yet.
“The only way I would consider it is to coach my sons. Not son. Sons,” Sanders said during an appearance on “Good Morning America” this week. “I love Colorado. I love my Buffaloes. I love everything we’re building and everything we’re doing. I love Boulder, Colorado. I do. Immensely.”
Sanders has coached his two youngest sons for almost all of their careers dating back to peewee football. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to be a first-round pick in this spring’s NFL Draft after throwing for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns for the Buffaloes this season, who improved from 4-8 to 9-4 this season, closing his career with a loss to BYU in the Alamo Bowl.
Defensive back Shilo Sanders also starred for Sanders’ teams at Colorado and Jackson State after beginning his career at South Carolina. He’s projected by The Athletic’s NFL Draft analyst Dane Brugler as a borderline draft pick who could be acquired by a team via an undrafted free-agent contract at the conclusion of the draft.
Sanders has been insistent throughout this season that he plans to be at Colorado for the long term. The Buffaloes signed five-star quarterback Julian Lewis, a long-time USC commit, in December and added Liberty transfer quarterback Kaidon Salter to the roster in December. Colorado signed 14 high school prospects so far in its 2025 class and added 15 transfers to the roster.
“I have every intention, every plan in the world to be coaching for the Colorado Buffs from here on. I want to finish here. I want to put the flag — I want my name on the mountains out there,” Sanders said in December. “I want to put my flag down in Colorado.”
