The count is 30 WPIAL boys basketball teams that will be participating in events sponsored by the Pittsburgh Basketball Club this weekend.
On Saturday, the PBC will host its annual Hall of Fame Classic with five games at North Hills and four at Ambridge.
Here is the schedule for each site:
At North Hills:
• Northgate vs. Avonworth at noon
• South Fayette vs. Mars at 1:30 p.m.
• Baldwin at North Hills at 3 p.m.
• Belle Vernon vs. Knoch at 4:30 p.m.
• Aliquippa vs. Penn Hills at 6 p.m.
At Ambridge:
• Washington vs. Hopewell at noon
• Beaver Falls at Ambridge at 1:30 p.m.
• Carlynton vs. Ellwood City at 3 p.m.
• Lincoln Park vs. Quaker Valley at 4:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the PBC Classic has four games at North Allegheny and two at the Rize Sports Complex in Leetsdale.
At North Allegheny:
• Allderdice vs. Chartiers Valley at noon
• Canon-McMillan at North Allegheny at 1:30 p.m.
• Montour vs. Pine-Richland at 3 p.m.
• Bethel Park vs. Moon at 4:30 p.m.
At Rize Sports Complex:
• Highlands vs. Central Valley at noon
• Sto-Rox vs. Sewickley Academy at 1:30 p.m.
Shootout in Greensburg
Another two-day weekend event is the Shootout at Seton Hill and includes boys and girls district basketball teams converging in Greensburg.
Here is the Saturday schedule:
• Bishop Guilfoyle vs. Norwin in a girls game at 6 p.m.
• McKeesport vs. Greensburg Central Catholic in a girls matchup at 7:30 p.m.
• Ligonier Valley vs. Greensburg Salem in a boys contest at 9 p.m.
The Sunday slate is made up of five boys games:
• Geibel Catholic vs. Mt. Pleasant at 1:30 p.m.
• Eden Christian Academy vs. McKeesport at 3 p.m.
• Armstrong vs. Burrell at 4:30 p.m.
• Derry vs. Jeannette at 6 p.m.
• Belle Vernon vs. Greensburg Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday make-ups
While most of the games Saturday are event-sponsored nonsection matchups, the bitterly cold weather earlier this week forced some postponements with four boys and three girls section games scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
On the boys side:
• Section 2-6A has Imani Christian visiting Norwin at 12:30 p.m.
• Section 4-5A has West Allegheny hosting Blackhawk at noon.
• Section 4-2A has South Side traveling to Rochester at 1:30 p.m.
In girls section hoops:
• Section 2-3A has top-ranked Shady Side Academy hitting the road to face South Allegheny at 1 p.m.
• Section 2-A has a key game when Clairton is home to Serra Catholic at noon
In Section 5A, there is a girls boys section doubleheader as Indiana visits Kiski Area with the girls tipping off at noon and the boys following at 1:30 p.m.
Stars on ice
The annual PIHL high school hockey all-star games are slated for Sunday at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island.
There are five games this season.
The Division 2 game is set for noon, followed by two Class A all-star games at 1:50 p.m. and at 3:40 p.m.
The Class 2A all-star game is at 5:30 p.m. and the day concludes with the 3A all-stars hitting the ice around 7:20 p.m.
