Sports Seriously
We’re down to the final three weeks of the NFL regular season. Seven teams have clinched a playoff spot; a further 16 teams are in contention for the remaining seven spots across both the AFC and NFC.
Week 16 sees plenty of divisional matchups starting with Chargers-Broncos on “Thursday Night Football.” For the first time this season, there were also games on Saturday with the Chiefs hosting the Texans and the Ravens taking on the Steelers. All were key games for playoff seeding come January.

Top storylines for NFL Week 16 games
- After a shootout loss to the Bills, Detroit is on the road against Chicago with multiple key players out for the foreseeable future. Unlike in the AFC, three NFC teams enter Week 16 at 12-2, including Detroit. The Lions only won by three last time these two teams met. They need a win to stay in the top spot for a first-round bye.
- Atlanta snapped a four-game losing streak against the Raiders on “Monday Night Football” but sit one game back from Tampa Bay for the NFC South title. The Falcons announced they’re making a change at quarterback ahead of the game. Can rookie Michael Penix Jr. play well enough against the Giants to give the team confidence in a final push to the postseason?
- Philadelphia pushed its winning streak to nine games against Pittsburgh last week. This Sunday, they’ll have likely their toughest game remaining on the schedule against Washington. The Commanders battled back late the last time these two teams met in a 26-18 loss in Philadelphia. At home, Washington could play spoiler to the Eagles’ hopes for the No. 1 seed in the NFC and move one step closer to securing a wild card spot.
- Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers head on the road to take on former San Francisco offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins. The last time these two teams met, Brock Purdy started his improbable career. Both teams are 6-8 and looking to salvage a disappointing season. A loss for either team would knock them out of playoff contention entirely.
- For the second week in a row, two teams currently in the top five of the 2025 NFL draft order face off. Las Vegas could move down from the top spot of the draft with a win or move one step closer to the No. 1 pick with a loss.
