COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State athletics director Ross Bjork stood behind Ryan Day when many wanted the football coach removed.
Now, after Day led the Buckeyes to a College Football Playoff National Championship, Bjork is maintaining his trust.
“He is the Buckeye coach for years to come,” Bjork said during Sunday’s championship celebration at Ohio Stadium.
Bjork met with reporters after the celebration.
He didn’t dive into specifics about a potential contract extension, but it’s clear Ohio State wants Day to remain in his role for the foreseeable future.
“The business pieces are all moving targets and all moving, fluid processes,” Bjork said. “We want to enjoy the moment, but the message is he’s our guy. We believe in him.”
Day signed a contract in 2022 that runs through 2028.
His salary is around $10 million — ranking fifth nationally behind Georgia’ Kirby Smart, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney, Texas’ Steve Sarkisian and Southern California’s Lincoln Riley.
“Stability and continuity in college football is so, so important,” Bjork said. “When you have that clarity and you have that alignment from the board, president, AD and coach, you want to lock that in. Those are the things that we’re discussing.”
