Jerry West’s life and legacy are nothing short of iconic.
West’s contributions to the game of basketball resulted in multiple inductions to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and his silhouette is unmistakable in the NBA’s iconic logo. As such, West is often referred to simply as, “The Logo.”
While West is one of the most influential figures in Lakers lore because of his work as a player and executive, he also made his presence felt with other franchises in the NBA. After West’s death in June 2024, those franchises have made it a point to ensure his legacy lives on by honoring him on their home floor.
Among those franchises is the Golden State Warriors, who will feature a “JW” decal on their home court throughout the 2024-25 season. Here’s why Golden State is honoring West.

The JW decal on the Warriors’ court is in memory of NBA legend Jerry West. West died on June 12, 2024, at 86 years old.
The decal, which is located on the sideline near half court, features West’s initials as well as his signature, as shown in a series of images shared by the franchise ahead of the season.

West is considered to be one of the greatest players in NBA history. Over 14 seasons with the Lakers, he averaged 27.0 points, 6.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game. He retired as a one-time NBA champion, one-time Finals MVP and 14-time All-Star with 12 All-NBA selections and five All-Defensive selections.
West was named to the NBA’s 35th, 50th and 75th anniversary teams.

West joined the Warriors as an executive board member in May 2011. The role also came with a minority ownership stake in the franchise.
When West was first hired, he delivered an answer at his introductory press conference that proved to be prophetic.
I see the fans up here and I see a real opportunity to build a team up here. They are so close to having a good team. And Bob Myers is someone I’ve known since he was a puppy, seeing him come in with Larry [Riley] and have an opportunity to work. Bob has been an agent, he’s going to have to change his hat, of course. But to work with people that empower you, it really makes me feel good. And I think the best thing in the world about life is when somebody feels like you can help.
West held his position with the Warriors from 2011 through the end of the 2016-17 season. He was a part of the organization during championship runs in 2015 and 2017, adding to his storied career as an NBA executive.
“He did so much for the NBA, the game of basketball and each of the teams he was associated with during his unmatched career, including the Warriors,” Warriors owner Joe Lacob said of West. “Jerry had a profound and immense impact on our franchise and was instrumental in our recent decade of success.”
West left in 2017, but his son, Jonnie, remains on staff as the franchise’s senior director of pro personnel.
