Kirby Smart on Travaris Robinson and the new era of Alabama football
No. 1 Georgia and No. 4 Alabama meet again. The stakes are different than they were last year but the drama is always palpable when these two SEC football powerhouses play.
This latest matchup between the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide is the main attraction during Week 5 of the college football season, although Saturday’s schedule features several more juicy games across the country like Illinois-Penn State and Wisconsin-USC in the Big Ten, Oklahoma State-Kansas State in the Big 12 and Louisville-Notre Dame in non conference play. In all, 20 of the 25 teams ranked in this week’s US LBM Coaches Poll will be in action.
None, though, carry the weight this Alabama-Georgia clash does. Both teams are undefeated again and look like national championship contenders. Georgia got a statement win over Clemson to start the year and a scare from Kentucky in its SEC opener before a bye last week. Alabama followed up a less than impressive win over South Florida with an encouraging performance on the road in a 42-10 win at Wisconsin in Week 4.
Alabama, of course, kept Georgia out of the College Football Playoff last season when it won the 2023 SEC Championship game. But the Crimson Tide did that with Nick Saban as coach. Now, Kalen DeBoer gets his first taste of this rivalry, which has grown in prestige with Saban at Alabama and coach Kirby Smart at Georgia.
