The 2024-25 college basketball season has not gone as Dan Hurley and UConn men’s basketball have planned.

Following their second straight national championship, the Huskies expected to be among the best teams again in college basketball, aiming for the first three-peat since UCLA. Hurley even turned down the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers to continue the quest. However, the Huskies have lost two out of their last three and are just 17-8 this season.

For reference, UConn has had 11 combined losses the last two seasons, including a 37-3 record during the 2023-24 season. The Huskies lost 69-68 to Seton Hall on Saturday. The victory was just the Pirates’ second Big East win. At 9-5 in conference play, the Huskies are three full games behind St. John’s for the top spot.

The Huskies get another chance to turn things around with a matchup against Villanova on Tuesday at Harry A. Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Connecticut. The Wildcats followed up an impressive win over No. 9 St. John’s last Tuesday (73-71) with a dud in a 75-62 loss to Providence.
