Florida basketball can finish off its non-conference schedule unbeaten with a win on Sunday afternoon against visiting Stetson.
The No. 5 Florida Gators (12-0) are off to their best start since beginning the 2005-06 season 17-0. UF is coming off an eight-day layoff for the holidays after beating North Florida 99-45 on Dec. 21. Florida had three players record double doubles in the win, as forward Alex Condon finished with 12 points and 10 rebounds, forward Sam Alexis finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds and forward Thomas Haugh finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Overall, Florida grabbed 26 offensive rebounds in the win, which led to 22 second-chance points.
“It’s really important to the way we play,” Florida basketball coach Todd Golden said. “We gotta be able to create some second-chance opportunities, with playing a couple bigs out there. So, I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, but I’m definitely pleased that we’ve been able to do it at such a high level so far.”
After reaching the NCAA Tournament last season, Stetson (2-10) has struggled under sixth-year coach Donnie Jones, a former UF assistant. The Hatters are led by junior guard Mekhi Ellison, who is averaging 14.2 points and 2.6 assists per game.
Florida and Stetson are slated to tip off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday from the O’Connell Center in Gainesville, Fla. (capacity 10,151).
Florida and Stetson will air on the SEC Network Plus and stream on WatchESPN.com. Kyle Crooks will handle play-by-play duties with former Gator great Patric Young and Mark Wise as the color analysts.
Per BetMGM, Florida is a 37.5-point favorite over Stetson. The over/under is 159.5 points.
The Florida-Stetson game will air on AM 850 and FM 98.1 in Gainesville and across the state on the Gator Radio Network. Sean Kelley will handle play-by-play duties, with former Gator great Lee Humphrey as the color analyst.
