Why LIV Golf captains see team golf as future for the sport
Bryson Dechambeau and Bubba Watson detailed the future of team golf in a press conference with Jon Rahm, Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka.
LIV Golf enters its fourth season of competition at something of a crossroads. It’s neither new nor entrenched at this point, and a previously announced merger with the PGA Tour seems to have stalled. Though some of golf’s biggest names have jumped to the LIV roster during that time, lured away by more guaranteed money and fewer playing demands, its audience and reach remain limited. Its legacy, for now, is how disrupted and divided the sport became through its creation.
Perhaps, however, that is about to change.
LIV Golf begins its new multi-year broadcasting agreement with FOX Sports starting Thursday when it opens the 2025 season with the LIV Golf Riyadh tournament played at night under the lights in Saudia Arabia. The hope is FOX and its family of networks can provide a more prominent platform for golfers like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and the team-based format LIV Golf has embraced since its inception.
Here’s more information on the 2025 LIV Golf schedule and how to watch LIV Golf Riyadh, which begins on Thursday, Feb. 6 and runs through Saturday, Feb. 9 at Riyadh Golf Club in Saudi Arabia:
LIV Golf announced in January a multi-year agreement with FOX Sports to air live coverage of LIV Golf events beginning this season. LIV Golf previously had an agreement with The CW. A complete broadcast schedule for the 2025 season was released on Wednesday.
There will be nearly 210 hours of live coverage carried across FOX’s platform of networks, with five of the 14 league events receiving Sunday coverage on FOX starting next week at LIV Golf Adelaide in Australia. The season-opening LIV Golf Riyadh will be broadcast by FS1 and FS2. All LIV Golf coverage will also be streamed on the FOX Sports App and to LIV Golf+ app subscribers.
Here’s how to watch LIV Golf Riyadh tournament action beginning Thursday:
LIV Golf finalized its 14-event 2025 schedule in January as the Saudi-backed PGA Tour competitor (and perhaps still a future merger partner) prepares for its third season after poaching some of the world’s best golfers over the years. The action begins in Riyadh, with tournaments scheduled in nine countries and five stops in the United States.
