Duke’s 21-20 comeback win over the Tar Heels is a big deal, the sort of game that will have consequences.
For Duke, it moves the Blue Devils to 5-0, the first time it has achieved that since 1994. It also breaks a losing streak to the Tar Heels that dates back to 2018. And the ridiculous, totally gangster post-game celebration will bond coach Manny Diaz not just to his team but to Duke fans as well. The guy is doing a tremendous job and is, at the moment anyway, probably the leading candidate for ACC Coach of the Year. It’s not just the 5-0 start. It’s also that he suffered major losses , including star quarterback Riley Leonard, and has done very well regardless.
For Mack Brown, the consequences may be less pleasant. After last week’s horrific 70-50 home loss to JMU, the last thing he needed was to lose to Duke, much less blowing a 17 point half time lead.
After a major UNC disaster, the single most fun thing you can do online is to head over to X and read Carolina Meltdown. It’s a real poop show right now which means that Duke fans should really, really enjoy scrolling through the inchoate rage against Brown and UNC football.
The funniest thing? Duke barely gets a mention. The anger is almost entirely directed at the Tar Heels, Brown, and his boss Bubba Cunningham. Wait until they see the cigars.
As we said, it’s a whole lot of fun. Enjoy.
