Police have arrested two teenage boys after a video circulated online showed a heavy seat was thrown from the third floor of Stratford Westfield shopping centre, narrowly missing shoppers on the ground floor.
The 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and remained in custody, the Met Police said.
Police were alerted to Saturday’s incident after the video was published online showing the seat being launched, and a group of boys then running up the escalator.
Westfield said the case was being handled by the police when contacted by the BBC.
Insp Dan Window, from Stratford Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have arrested two people following Saturday’s incident and they remain in custody.
“This was a serious incident and I would encourage anyone who may have information to contact the police.”
