Wegmans is opening its first Fairfield County, Conn. store in Norwalk this July.
When complete, the 92,000 square foot supermarket will employ approximately 500 people, most of whom will be new to the company, and hired locally. According to a Wegmans press release, hiring for the Norwalk store is ongoing, with part- and full-time roles available, ranging from customer service positions in merchandising, service, culinary, and perishable departments, to entry-level management roles.
“We’re looking for enthusiastic candidates to round out our team before opening day,” said Norwalk Store Manager Emily Gee. “We’re excited to begin the countdown to July 23 when we can welcome the Norwalk community through our doors.”
The company, which placed on People’s 2024 “Companies That Care” list as well as on Fortune magazine’s list of “The 100 Best Companies to Work For,” has a long-standing reputation as an exceptional employer, offering flexible scheduling, industry-leading healthcare and life benefits, on the job training, a 401K retirement plan and an employee scholarship program available to both full- and part-time employees.
The Norwalk store is located at 675 Connecticut Ave. Job seekers can learn more online at jobs.wegmans.com/en/norwalk or by calling the hiring office at 203-299-3333.
Additional stores are planned later this year in Lake Grove, New York (opening Feb. 26) and Rockville, Maryland (on June 25).
The family-run chain, with 111 stores along the east coast, opened its first Westchester store at 106 Corporate Park Drive in West Harrison Aug. 5, 2020.
Wegmans isn’t the only family-owned and operated grocer headed to Fairfield County. DeCicco & Sons, in New York since 1973 (with locations in Ardsley, Armonk, Bedford, Brewster, Eastchester, Harrison, Larchmont, Millwood, Pelham and Somers), is also opening this summer. Its first Connecticut location will be at 11 Glen Ridge Road in Greenwich.
Set to occupy a 20,000-square-foot space, this new spot will be the company’s 12th store overall. Their Sleepy Hollow location at Edge-on-Hudson should open sometime in the first quarter of 2025.
