Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has bewailed the ongoing recruitment of Kenyans by an unnamed Qatari company; questioning the government’s ideology in exporting local labour to international countries.
Speaking on Daybreak show, Wamuchomba wondered why thousands of learned Kenyans were been exported to do menial jobs in Qatar instead of enhancing a better environment for them to thrive locally.
She insisted that the systems and policies in place ought to be changed to get rid of problems such as lack of job opportunities in the country.
“We have not been fair to Kenyans as a government if all we can do to thousands of jobless people is to lump them up in a plane and dump them in another country to go and look for menial jobs like cleaning? For heavenly sake, these are people who have education,” she said.
Wamuchomba also questioned the youths’ conduct and grooming skills when showing up during the interviews for formal jobs.
“I have continuously struggled with young people on matters grooming. Personally, I don’t employ people who don’t conform with my expectations” she noted.
“For me to believe that you can work in whatever job I have for you, the first thing I need to see is your appearance. If it is informal jobs it’s fine but it’s formal jobs, then work needs to be done.”
She advised parents to equip their children with top-notch grooming skills to ensure their appearance and conduct are in order.
“We have some work to do as parents, I mean if really you’re going for an interview, cut your beards, dreads if you have to because not all jobs will take your jeans or dreads..”
These included nurses, waitresses, kids attendants, light vehicle drivers, plumbers, painters, store keepers, welders among others.
