DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) – Wallace Community College is welcoming new sports to campus, with their seasons kicking off in Fall 2025.
Baseball and softball have been staples for the college, and now the athletic program is growing.
“It’s been sometime since we’ve added additional sports here, but we’ve heard from the community and we’ve looked at this and gave careful consideration to it, and we’re excited to expand this,” said WCCD Athletic Director Ryan Spry.
The school is bringing in men and women‘s golf, as well as men and women’s cross country.
16 full ride scholarships will be given for golf — 8 for men, and 8 for women.
Ten scholarships will also be allowed per cross country team.
WCCD Interim President Keith Phillips says the addition is a recruitment and enrollment marketing tool.
“We know that some of the talented students that might’ve chosen to come to Wallace College chose to go to another college because we didn’t offer additional athletic opportunities,” said Phillips. ”These new teams will allow us to attract and support students from the Wiregrass who want to pursue both their education and their passion, because you play because of passion.”
From here, the school begins their hunt for coaches. With them, the student athletes that school leaders will bring in talent, competition, and a renewed school spirit.
