What does a horse do the morning after being named horse of the year? They get back to work.
Thorpedo Anna worked Friday morning for the first time since winning the Breeders’ Cup Distaff. She went three furlongs at Gulfstream Park in 35.75 seconds, the second fastest of 26 over the trip. Working toward her 4-year-old season, the Kenny McPeek trainee was a sensation at age 3, winning six of her seven starts, including four in Grade 1 company.

McPeek has not finalized a return spot for her. However, according to a report from David Grening of Daily Racing Form, she may return at Oaklawn in either the Azeri (G2) on March 8 or the Apple Blossom (G1) on April 12. Grening reported that if Thorpedo Anna does make the Azeri and wins it “easy”, the Dubai World Cup (G1) may come under consideration.
These nine graded-stakes winners worked across the country Friday morning.
Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna), a five-time Grade 1 winner, worked three furlongs in 35.7 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of 26 works at the distance. This was her first work since her last race. In her last start, she won the Breeders’ Cup Distaff going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Kenny McPeek.
There Goes Harvard (Will Take Charge), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Hollywood Gold Cup), worked five furlongs in 1:00.4 at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the eighth fastest of 25 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start, he placed 10th in the Breeders’ Cup Turf going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 2 for trainer Michael McCarthy.
Masteroffoxhounds (War Front), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 John Henry Turf Championship, 2021 San Marcos), worked four furlongs in 47.3 seconds at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the third fastest of 72 works at the distance. His previous work was 19 days ago going three furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start, he placed 12th in the Seabiscuit Handicap (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Del Mar on Nov. 30 for trainer Phil D’Amato.
Artislas (Catalina Cruiser), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Del Mar Juvenile Turf), worked four furlongs in 46.4 seconds at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the fastest of 13 works at the distance. This was his first work since his last race. In his last start, he won the Eddie Logan going one mile on the turf at Santa Anita on Dec. 29 for trainer Jeff Mullins.
Cairo Consort (Cairo Prince), a Grade 3 winner (2023 Sweetest Chant), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Palm Beach Downs on Friday morning. It was the 18th fastest of 30 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In her last start, she placed 10th in the Nassau (G2) going one mile on the turf at Woodbine on June 29 for trainer Kevin Attard.
Coastal Mission (Great Notion), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Forty Niner), worked three furlongs in 36.4 seconds at Charles Town on Friday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 17 works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going three furlongs at Charles Town. In his last start, he placed fourth in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) going one mile on the main track at Aqueduct on Dec. 7 for trainer Jeff Runco.
Duke of Love (Cupid), a Grade 3 winner (2023 West Virginia Governor’s), worked five furlongs in 1:01.3 at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the sixth fastest of 17 works at the distance. His previous work was nine days ago going five furlongs at Palm Meadows. In his last start, he placed fifth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Saratoga on Sept. 2 for trainer Josie Carroll.
La Cara (Street Sense), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Pocahontas), worked four furlongs in 47.4 seconds at Palm Meadows on Friday morning. It was the seventh fastest of 72 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Palm Meadows. In her last start, she placed fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Del Mar on Nov. 1 for trainer Mark Casse.
The Queens M G (Thousand Words), a Grade 3 winner (2024 Adirondack), worked four furlongs in 50.2 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Friday morning. It was the 50th fastest of 70 works at the distance. Her previous work was 12 days ago going three furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In her last start, she placed third in the Tempted going one mile on the main track at Belmont at the Big A on Nov. 2 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.
