Videos circulating online showed the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, playing golf amid a diplomatic standoff with Colombia.
Trump was pictured playing a round of golf at Trump National Doral Miami on Sunday, marking the first time he’s been seen golfing since taking office, according to Express US.
Netizens praised the President for managing a major diplomatic crisis with Colombia while appearing unfazed on the greens.
One individual commented: “President Trump showed Columbia who is in charge MID golf round today. Boss moves.”
Another remarked, “Trump was golfing and handling the Columbia situation at the same time. This man is a machine.”
The tensions between Colombia and the United States reached a boiling point when President Petro refused to allow two US military planes carrying deported Colombian citizens to land in his country. He also shared footage showing reportedly deported migrants in Brazil walking while restrained on a tarmac.
“A migrant is not a criminal and must be treated with the dignity that a human being deserves. That is why I returned the US military planes that were carrying Colombian migrants,” Petro said.
Petro indicated that Colombia would only receive its citizens through civilian aircraft, rejecting any prison-style handling.
As a countermeasure to Petro’s stance, Trump declared he would implement emergency 25% tariffs on all US-bound goods, escalating to 50% within a week.
And a travel ban and immediate visa revocations targeting Colombian Government Officials, their Allies and Supporters.
While Petro initially responded by threatening to impose his own tariffs on US products, he ultimately backed down after a few hours of heated back-and-forth. Colombian foreign minister Luis Gilberto Murillo announced late Sunday that the crisis had been resolved, with Colombia agreeing to accept the deported citizens.
