The Golden State Warriors dropped their most recent game against the Brooklyn Nets in disappointing fashion by a score of 128-120 Monday night, falling to 12-5 on the season.

Brooklyn’s 41-point fourth quarter was part of a furious 18-point comeback effort led by point guard Dennis Schröder’s 31 points and seven assists.

For Golden State, their consistently effective bench unit was not able to perform up to their standards outside of Moses Moody’s 15 points. 

The Warriors’ biggest free agency addition, Buddy Hield, shot just 25% on 12 attempts from the field and their All-Rookie First Team member from one season ago Brandin Podziemski gave the team 7 points and a plus-minus of -10.

The Warriors’ bench had been producing at astronomical levels before their collapse against Brooklyn, still averaging a league-leading 52.7 points in the wake of their defeat. 

With the recent season-ending ACL injury to their two-way bench guard De’Anthony Melton, Golden State is lacking their usual firepower from the reserves, as was evident against Brooklyn. 

The Warriors bench could have used another solid option to either score or run the offense, and their general manager Mike Dunleavy may be in a position to give the Philadelphia 76ers a call to inquire about a former adversary and potential Hall-of-Famer.

At 38 years old, point guard Kyle Lowry could give Golden State’s bench the spark they so desperately desire. 

The six-time All-Star, 2019 NBA champion and tenth-place finisher in MVP voting in 2015-16 with the Toronto Raptors has been serving as a mentor and respected veteran for the flailing 3-13 76ers, which could lead to his desire to join a contender by season’s end.

In season No. 19, Lowry is averaging 6.2 points, 3.4 assists and 1.2 steals in just 24.2 minutes with Philadelphia, proving that he more than likely would produce if he was given a better situation.

As one of the smartest players in the game and a seasoned playoff veteran, Dunleavy could be tempted to add Lowry to one of the deepest bench rotations in the entire league after his trade restriction is lifted on Dec. 15.

With the addition of Lowry as Golden State’s floor general off of the bench, the team could consider sliding Podziemski to the shooting guard position to help him break out of his recent offensive slump.

In return for Lowry, the 76ers would likely seek a combination of young talent like Moody and draft compensation as they are trending towards hitting the reset button.
