As the trade season winds down, the Golden State Warriors must decide whether to complete another deal.
The organization may send a coveted NBA champion to the Memphis Grizzlies for a former Boston Celtics fan favorite.
“The Grizzlies have been one of the best teams in the Western Conference and all of the NBA so far this season,” The Wrightway Sports Network’s Blake Meek wrote Monday.
“Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ja Morant have been absolutely fantastic this season and they have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA. They are legitimately 12 players deep and only have one player that plays more than 30 minutes a game and that is Desmond Bane with 30.1 minutes a night.”
“They have a strong roster so it can be tough to see where they should add to it, but they could really use a strong 3-and-D wing to play with Ja, Bane and Jaren Jackson Jr.”
“The Warriors have one that they would likely part with that wouldn’t cost the Grizzlies a fortune. The Grizzlies should call up the Warriors and work out a deal that brings Andrew Wiggins to the Grizzlies.”
While Wiggins has been involved in trade rumors for months, he’s played high-level basketball for the underachieving Warriors this season.
Now that the 2014 lottery pick is committed to competing on both ends of the floor and refraining from taking plays off, he’s been able to maximize his potential in the Bay.
Wiggins, who helped the franchise secure a title in 2022, averages 17.6 points per contest on 44.4% field goal shooting and 37.9% three-point shooting this season.
However, with Meek mentioning that the Warriors could swap Wiggins for ex-Celtics star and Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, it isn’t wild to envision the organization considering the deal.
Although Smart isn’t on Wiggins’ level offensively, he would provide the Warriors with a gritty guard who could help an already solid defensive team reach new heights.
Meek’s trade idea may not occur, but it’s a compelling concept to ponder.
