The Golden State Warriors will likely seek an ideal trade partner to keep them on the right track this year.
Steve Kerr’s crew currently boasts a 12-4 record, but trading for a well-respected NBA champion could help them sustain their early-season success.
“Until he signs a long-term deal, Bruce Brown is always going to be considered a potential NBA Trade Deadline candidate,” Sir Charles in Charge’s Michael Saenz wrote Monday.
“But until he actually makes his regular-season debut, it’s going to be difficult to gauge what his trade value is going to be in this cycle.”
“But assuming he’s going to be able to make a return sooner rather than later, Brown is the type of player who could make a ton of sense as a trade deadline target for the Warriors.”
“He’s a proven veteran with a championship pedigree who knows how to play any specific role effectively.”
“If the Warriors are looking for that in a potential trade target, Brown could be their man.”
“However, making a move for Brown could prove to be complicated considering the asking price (with Masai Ujiri on the other side of the phone) and his unsettled contract situation heading into the offseason.”
“Unless the Warriors are willing to make a move for Brown as a rental for the remainder of the season, he’d be much more of a risk than perhaps the Warriors are willing to take at this point.”
Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in September and has yet to suit up for the Raptors this season.
However, there’s no question Brown is a trustworthy asset who produces on both ends of the floor.
Brown averaged 10.8 points per contest last season with the Raptors while shooting 48.1% from the field.
The Miami product thrives as an off-ball offensive threat who regularly finds himself in the right spots thanks to his constant activity.
Brown has not received a defensive accolade since joining the NBA in 2018. Still, he possesses the motor, attentiveness, and pristine lateral footwork required to be a serviceable defender at the highest level of basketball.
Essentially, Brown comprehends what he can and can’t do on the hardwood, allowing him to find his niche and help the Denver Nuggets make history in 2023 by hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy for the first time.
Are there more valuable assets the Warriors should target on the trade market? Perhaps, but assuming Brown gets healthy and returns to action this season, the 6-foot-4 forward is certainly worth a look.
