The GHSA state volleyball and softball playoffs started this week and the state cross country meet is coming up in Carrollton on Nov. 8-9.
Fall sports athletes have been at the top of their games with the playoffs in mind, and there were some notable individual performances over the last two weeks.
This is a chance for readers to weigh in and select the Savannah Morning News Fall Athlete of the Week in an open poll with no restrictions on the voting. The poll will close on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at 11 a.m.
Here are this week’s candidates.
The sophomore went 4-for-5 with a double, two homers, three runs and seven RBI to lead South Effingham to a win over Effingham County in the Region 1-5A title game.
The junior won the Red Flame Classic, helping lead Richmond Hill to the team crown, with a time of 15:59.06 on the 3.1 mile course.
The sophomore helped lead the Wildcats to the team title at the Red Flame Classic by winning the individual race with a time of 19:05.14 on the 3.1 mile course.
The senior helped lead the Cadets to the team title at the 7th Mile Farm Invitational by winning the individual race with a time of 16:27.10 on the 3.1 mile course.
The senior went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and an RBI in the region championship game.
The sophomore won the 7th Mile Farm Invitational with a time of 19:58.50, edging Leah Nyce of Savannah Arts by less than half a second.
The senior was second in the 7th Farm Invitational race with a time of 19:58.90 in the 3.1 mile race.
The senior had 17 kills and six digs to help lead the Raiders to an area championship in a sweep of St. Vincent’s.
The senior had 10 kills, 16 aces and three digs as the Panthers swept Drew Charter to advance to the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs.
