After another thrilling week of the high school basketball season, it’s time to look back on the best performances.
Read about the players who stood out last week and let us know who you think should be the North Jersey Player of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page.
Voting closes at 5 p.m. Thursday.
West Milford junior guard
The Highlanders ran their win streak to five with a 3-0 week, in which Benowitz caught fire from behind the arc. She made 9 three-pointers, including four against Passaic Tech, when she poured in a season-high 20 points. Her scoring average for the week was 13.7.
Old Tappan junior guard/forward
Drullinsky helped the Golden Knights post a pair of wins, including one against previously unbeaten rival Demarest. She averaged 16 points, 11 rebounds and 3.5 steals, and coach Brian Dunn praised her as “a tremendous overall player and extremely versatile defender.”
Immaculate Heart junior guard
The Blue Eagles shook off a five-game losing streak by winning 6-of-7, and Grella stepped up in a 2-1 week. She had a team-high 20 points in a win over Eastside, tallied 17 points and 5 rebounds in Sunday’s win vs. River Dell and totaled 7 three-pointers in three games.
Glen Rock junior forward
The Panthers have had several players lead the team in scoring throughout their nine-game win streak, but Grove stood out thanks to Sunday’s career game vs. Dumont: 37 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. She averaged 15.3 points and 7 rebounds in four outings.
Ramsey sophomore guard
Swierk had her two best scoring outputs of the season for the Rams, who have overcome an 0-2 start by winning 8-of-9. She scored 15 points and drained a pair of threes at Pascack Hills, then tallied 14 points and made 6 free throws against Indian Hills.
Rutherford junior guard/forward
Vellis averaged 15.3 points in three victories, as the Bulldogs stretched their winning streak to nine games. She began the week with a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds) against Lyndhurst, helping her team stay on top in the NJIC National Division.
