The Virginia Tech Hokies are reportedly close to hiring an offensive coordinator. According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic and FOX Sports, Virginia Tech is targeting Buffalo Bills assistant Christian Taylor as its new offensive coordinator.
Who is Taylor? The 41-year-old spent last season as a defensive quality control coach for the Bills. From 2020-23, Taylor was William & Mary’s offensive coordinator and running backs coach. During his time with the Tribe, Taylor’s offenses were among the most innovative in college football. In 2023, Taylor was named the AFCA FCS Assistant Coach of the Year.
Taylor joined the Bills, where several other William & Mary alumni were on staff, including head coach Sean McDermott and offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Taylor played quarterback for the Tribe.

The Hokies were surprised to have an offensive coordinator opening when Tyler Bowen took off for Ohio State last week. Bowen was named OSU’s offensive line coach. Pry was in a tough spot looking for an offensive coordinator this late in the hiring cycle but he moved quickly in his search. There were reports that the Hokies were interested in former WVU head coach Neal Brown after he was fired, but Brown was content with passing on multiple jobs this cycle due to the money West Virginia owes him.
Bowen departed after VT hired Sam Siefkes as the new defensive coordinator, six weeks after firing former DC Chris Marve. Siefkes also came from the NFL, having served as the Arizona Cardinals linebackers coach. However, like Taylor, Siefkes had previous college coaching experience, where he was a successful defensive coordinator at Wofford.
We’ll have more on the move — when or if — it becomes official.
