Vince Marrow will NOT be taking a job on the Louisville football coaching staff

There was about a 12-hour window where it looked like the most well-known Kentucky football assistant coach might be on the move. Matt Jones confirmed Monday morning that Vince Marrow is not leaving Lexington for a position on Jeff Brohm’s coaching staff at Louisville.

On Sunday night, we shared on KSBoard that there was a lot of smoke between Marrow and Louisville. Even though it was just a day after a loss in the Governor’s Cup, things clearly aren’t going well at Kentucky. Marrow played in the XFL with Brohm and a similar position at Louisville could have provided a soft landing spot if the Kentucky associate head coach was looking for an out.

Marrow has been linked to multiple coaching vacancies in the past. That includes this coaching carousel when his name was tied to the head coaching position at Southern Miss. This one would’ve felt significantly different. A move within the state would have caused quite a ruckus. Fortunately, it’s saving BBN’s pet’s heads from falling off.

Marrow has been Mark Stoops’ righthand man ever since he arrived in Lexington. Today actually marks the 12-year anniversary of Stoops’ introductory press conference.

Marrow is the tight ends coach, NFL liaison, and Stoops’ associate head coach. He’s one of the highest-paid assistants in college football who does not call plays for an offense or defense. He made $1.3 million this fall. Marrow signed a contract extension ahead of the 2024 season that runs through 2026.

The Big Dog also plays two other important roles for Mark Stoops. When players have an issue, he’s the person on staff they go to fix the problem. There were a lot of problems during a 4-8 season and there could be more on the horizon if he isn’t great at his other job, recruiter. Not only does he do the most heavy lifting in the high school ranks, Marrow has been known to close quite a few deals to land players from the transfer portal.

A surprising departure could have gotten the Kentucky football offseason off to a very rocky start. Things aren’t great right now, but Mark Stoops still has his righthand man to help him steer this ship back on the right path.
