Several former El Paso high school student-athletes or UTEP athletes are finding success at the collegiate and pro level.
Here is a look at how some are doing, including El Paso’s Aaron Jones..
- KJ Lewis, Chapin High School. Lewis is averaging 10.6 points and 4.4 rebounds for the University of Arizona.
- Bryson Goldsmith, Chapin High School. Goldsmith is averaging 9.8 points per game for Texas A&M Kingsville.
- Adryan Alvarez, Del Valle High School. Alvarez is averaging 17.6 points per game and shooting nearly 85 percent from the free throw line for the University Dallas.
- Victoria Perez, San Elizario High School. Perez averages 10.2 points per game and has 33 assists for Colorado Christian University.
- Anna Yellen, El Paso High School. Yellen is averaging 10.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the University of Texas at Dallas.
- Desirae Spearman, Hanks High School. The New Mexico State softball player was named to the Preseason Top 100 Players List by Softball America.
- Donovan Black, Del Valle High School. Black averages 5.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game for Western New Mexico.
- Brianna Vargas, Burges High School. Vargas averages 8.4 points and 3.3 assists per game for Midland College.
- Victoria Aguayo, Pebble Hills High School. Aguayo averages 8.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for Sul Ross State.
- Cheyanne Bonilla, Eastlake High School. Bonilla averages 9.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game for Sul Ross State.
- Sophiya Bustillos, Riverside High School. Bustillos averages 5.4 points per game for Sul Ross State.
- Celina Celaya, Chapin High School. Celaya has 62 assists, 23 steals and averages 5.4 points for the University of the Southwest.
- Jasmin Holt, Chapin High School. Holt averages 12.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game for Western Texas College.
- Brandon Hymes, Chapin High School. Hymes averages 9.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per game for Dawson College.
- Briana Montoya, Chapin High School. Montoya averages 13.1 points per game for the University of Southwest.
- Aaron Jones, Burges High School/UTEP. Jones rushed for 1,138 yards in the regular season for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, who have qualified for the playoffs.
- Tyrice Knight, UTEP. In his rookie year with the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks, Knight had 88 tackles at linebacker.
- Roy Robertson–Harris, UTEP. In 17 NFL games this season between Seattle and Jacksonville, he had two sacks and 20 tackles as a defensive lineman.
