Among the guests at tonight’s state banquet at Buckingham Palace were two very famous faces: David and Victoria Beckham.
For the white tie affair, Victoria chose a sleek long-sleeve black gown, while David was in a classic black tail coat. Victoria’s gown appeared to be one from her eponymous brand.
The brand notes that “the modest and minimalist design” of the gown “creates a contemporary and confident silhouette.” They add, “Crafted from stretch jersey with a high shine, it is fitted through the body and sleeve with a godet insert at the back of the skirt for a feminine flare. A circular gathered detail at the front of the skirt creates a flattering focal point, bringing texture and visual interest to the understated aesthetic.”
At the banquet, David was seated between Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi. Victoria, meanwhile, was seated between Lord Levy and Lord Darzi of Denham.
The Beckhams have long been close with the British royal family; they were among the guests at both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding and at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s nuptials. More recently, David became an official ambassador for King Charles’s King’s Foundation, and joined Prince William in October to visit London’s Air Ambulance Charity helicopters. In recent years, he also appeared in the Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee concert and attended Prince William’s Earthshot Prize ceremony in Boston. As part of the Spice Girls, Victoria met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and other royals in the 90s.
Over two decades ago, in 2003, David received the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. “The most special moment for me was to receive my OBE. I took my grandparents with me, who were the ones that really brought me up to be a huge royalist and a fan of the royal family, and obviously I had my wife there as well,” he shared upon the Queen’s passing in 2022. “To step up, to get my honour, but then also Her Majesty, to ask questions, to talk, I was so lucky that I was able to have a few moments like that in my life, to be around Her Majesty. Because we can all see with the love that has been shown, how special she is and how special she was and the legacy that she leaves behind.”
After Queen Elizabeth passed away, Beckham was one of the thousands of mourners who queued to pay his respects. “This day was always going to be difficult, and it’s difficult for the nation, it’s difficult for everyone around the world, because I think everyone is feeling it, and our thoughts are with the family and obviously with everybody here today,” Beckham said at the time. “Because it’s special to be here, to celebrate, and to hear the different stories that people have to say.”
