Here’s a sign-up perk that may perk up the ears of gridiron fans: Verizon will give customers on certain plans access to the NFL Sunday Ticket out-of-market games package from YouTube for the 2024-25 season for no extra charge.
Under the special promo, Verizon customers who sign up for or upgrade to select wireless and home internet plans will get next season’s NFL Sunday Ticket free — regularly priced at up to $449 — if they act by Dec. 10, 2024.
The offer is available to Verizon mobile customers who are new premium unlimited mobile customers (or are existing customers who add a new line to their account), purchase a select smartphone (such as a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 or Galaxy Z Flip6 or Google Pixel Fold) and sign up for a mobile line on an Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Ultimate plan. New Verizon Home Internet customers who sign up for premium Verizon Home Internet plans (5G Home Plus or LTE Home Plus, or Fios 1 Gig or 2 Gig) also can get Sunday Ticket for free. In addition, the offer is available to existing customers who upgrade their plans to one of those included in the promotion.
Currently, Sunday Ticket from YouTube (available as a standalone package and via YouTube TV) includes all out-of-market Sunday regular-season NFL games that are broadcast on Fox and CBS.
Verizon customers who already have a wireless myPlan or a Home Internet plan are eligible to get a $100 discount on NFL Sunday Ticket from YouTube and YouTubeTV. More info is available at verizon.com/sundayticket.
Terms of the deal between Verizon and Google for the Sunday Ticket promo aren’t being disclosed. It’s likely that the telco is paying Google a per-subscriber fee at a wholesale rate under the arrangement, absorbing it as a customer-acquisition cost.
In addition, Verizon is offering a $10/month discount on YouTube TV for one year, available for home internet customers through the myHome platform. Through that special promotion, eligible Verizon Home Internet customers will pay $62.99/month for the YouTube TV base plan (regularly priced at $72.99/month) for 12 months.
Plus, through its Verizon Access rewards program, the telco will host weekly ticket giveaways to every NFL game for all 32 teams through the end of the season.
Google landed a seven-year deal with the NFL to sell Sunday Ticket via YouTube starting with the 2023-24 season, wresting it away from longtime partner DirecTV.
Separately, last month a federal jury ordered the NFL to pay $4.7 billion to past customers of Sunday Ticket after finding the league conspired with DirecTV and network partners to increase the price of the exclusive games package. The NFL is appealing the decision.
