Varun Chakaravarthy has joined the India ODI squad in Nagpur for the short camp ahead of the three fixtures against England from February 6. Rohit Sharma & Co. arrived here for a short camp before the series gets underway and Varun, who enjoyed a lot of success in the T20Is vs the same opposition, is an interesting addition.

Should Varun Chakaravarthy Get More Chances in India’s ODI Squad?
The spinner picked 14 wickets in the five T20Is vs England and dominated the opposition in all the games. He even picked up a five wicket haul in the third T20I vs England in Rajkot.
In the press conference, India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill has confirmed that Varun Chakaravarthy has been added to India squad for England ODIs.
The 33-year-old is yet to make his ODI debut but has played 23 List A games for his state Tamil Nadu in the domestic circuit. His last appearance was during the Vijay Hazare Trophy earlier this year and he bagged a fifer vs Rajasthan in the preliminary quarter-final clash in Vadodara.
Former India off-spinner R Ashwin, who announced his retirement from international cricket after the Brisbane Test vs Australia, had advocated for Varun’s addition to India’s Champions Trophy squad.
“We are all talking about whether he should have been there (Champions Trophy squad), I am thinking there is a chance he might be there. I have a feeling he might make it. There is a chance because all teams have named only a provisional squad. So, he might get picked,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin had a feeling that Varun could well be added to India’s squad for England ODIs and it could well be the case now.
“I have a feeling that Varun might get a chance to play in the ODI series between India and England. I don’t think it’s an easy call to take him directly to the Champions Trophy. He has not played ODIs. I have a feeling they will give him a chance in the India vs England ODI series,” Ashwin added.
