CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – UVA’s John Paul Jones Arena was full, but not with its typical sports fans or concert goers, but by people hoping to find a job, and employers hoping to fill open positions.

Pipelines & Pathways, a UVA initiative that helps job seekers get hired by the university or its community partners.

“Anyone who wants access to employment at the University of Virginia has that opportunity,” Pipelines & Pathways Manager Hollie Lee said. “And that’s really why we’re here.”

At this event, nearly 90 exhibitors showed up, with hundreds of open positions.

“We work with individuals to help them look for jobs, to create resumes, to prepare for interviews, to get through the hiring process,” Lee said of the initiative’s objectives.

“We’ve had a really good turnout so far, people looking for some people looking for part time seasonal work,” Lee said. “Always people looking for full time opportunities as well.”

The event brought in employers from off-grounds, and is one way Lee said the university is trying to be a better partner to its community.

“They may have special skills, they may need certain hours that the UVA doesn’t accommodate,” Lee said. “And so it’s a good opportunity for people to learn what’s out there in the broader community as well.”
