The United States Of America (USA) vs Namibia ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 2023-2027 match at Al Amerat Cricket Ground in Oman was delayed by more than an hour, forcing the match to be curtailed to 43 overs. Usually, the delay is the result of rain or weather conditions, but in a rare occasion, the match was delayed by traffic.
According to Peter Della Penna, a prominent commentator and broadcaster, the teams failed to reach the ground on time due to heavy traffic caused by Ironman race in Muscat, resulting in the match getting delayed. USA Cricket took to X and informed that the match was delayed due to unforeseen conditions, but they did not clarify the real reason for the delay. Replying to the post, Peter wrote, “Apparently, both teams could not get to the ground because a marathon/Ironman road race in Muscat resulted in significant road closures, including the routes that were meant to be taken by the USA and Namibia team buses. Match reduced to 43 overs per side.”
Meanwhile, the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 stands of significant importance. It is a gateway for associate teams to qualify for the ODI World Cup. Eight associate teams play bilateral or tri-series against each other and earn points. The top four teams in the table earn a place in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers which is a 10-team tournament, including the 11th and 12 ranked teams, the top four teams from League 2, and the top four teams from the qualifier play-off. The top four teams from World Cup Qualifiers will qualify for the World Cup.
USA are currently placed at the top of the table with 16 points in 12 matches, followed by Canada, who also have 16 points, but an inferior run rate. Namibia are placed sixth with 10 points in 12 matches.
