In a Cricket World Cup League 2 match in Al Amerat, Oman, the USA defended their 122 runs, thereby defeating Oman by 57 runs and breaking India’s 38-year-old record.

India were the previous record holders when they defended 125 runs against Pakistan back in 1985 in Sharjah. In that match, India bowled out Pakistan for 87 to win by 38 runs. Thus, the USA’s victory has been noted for being the first in approximately 4,671 ODIs where such a low total has ever been defended in a full 50-over format.

Another unusual milestone this match created was that it became the first ever ODI for men in history where no fast bowler bowled a single delivery. All nine bowlers used in the match were spinners, reinforcing the supremacy of spin in this match.
