MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – The sport of disc golf is exploding in popularity!
Marquette’s newest course is now open and ready for you to use.
The Buck Buchanan Memorial Disc Golf Course is located on County Road 550, just past the Dead River on the way to Big Bay.
The new course is beginner-friendly and should alleviate the crowding at the Powder Mill course.
Upper Michigan Today took its show to the course to learn about its creation, its namesake, and to give you a look into the 18-hole game.
Phil “Bud” DePetro is a member of the U.P. Disc Golf Association.
He says that this course has been in the making for nearly a decade.
The U.P. Disc Golf Association signed a ten-year lease on land for The Buck Buchanan Memorial Disc Golf Course.
Buchanan was instrumental in the growth of both disc golf and guts frisbee in the U.P.
You don’t have to pay or sign up for a tee time to play at the course, but donations are always accepted for the upkeep and maintenance of the course.
Elizabeth, Tia, and Bud put on their game faces, starting at hole number one and making their way through the scenic course.
You can join disc golfers in playing in a new league at the Buck Buchanan course on Tuesdays.
Keep up with the Upper Peninsula Disc Golf Association on Facebook at DISC Da U.P.
You can watch Upper Michigan Today on weekdays at 9:00 a.m. on FOX UP or stream the show on your smart device with the TV6+ app.
