Last week, we reported that ongoing plumbing issues have forced all restaurants in the Woodley Gardens shopping center in Rockville, including Carmen’s Italian Ice, Shanghai Taste, and Z&Z, to temporarily close for repairs. Initially hoping to reopen by Halloween, it now appears the closures will likely extend through the first week of November.

Carmen’s owner, Jason Mandler, shared that the community, including Rockville’s mayor, has been very supportive. Carmen’s will serve from their ice cream truck in the center’s parking lot on Saturday from noon to 5:30 p.m., with donuts from Just Fine Donuts/The Dairy Godmother available from 9 a.m. to noon.

Hard Times Cafe was closed from September 2023 to July 2024 due to plumbing issues at the shopping center.
