GRAND CHUTE — A new type of workout is coming to Appleton as Unleash Studio prepares to open a mind, body and bungee studio.
The future fitness studio, 1879 N. Casaloma Drive, is expected to open in April and will feature bungee classes, private parties, holistic products and services, and other products from local small businesses.
Owner Jen Kalz said this will be her first brick-and-mortar business. After trying bungee for the first time one year ago, she was immediately hooked on the concept.
“This is new territory for me, a fitness studio like this, but I’m more than ready for it,” Kalz said. “When I started bungee, it was just something I saw on Facebook and wanted to try it and learn. I wanted to go get certified and had no intention of opening a studio initially.”
Kalz said the idea to open a studio came after getting her certification. She decided to combine her interest in bungee with her other business, which offers reiki sessions, chakra alignment and other services, which she plans to offer in the new studio.
“I started doing reiki in 2021, really making it more than just a hobby and starting to build a business out of it,” Kalz said. “I’ve always had this love of astrology and different types of energy work and shamanism, and incorporating that with the physical fitness side of things felt like a perfect fit.”
Seeing the business come together is what Kalz said has been driving her, and she’s looking forward to sharing her love of bungee with the community.
“This particular fitness is new to the area, and it’s the one thing that really stuck for me,” Kalz said. “So sharing that with other individuals in the community is just gonna be a whole lot of fun, because it is. It’s an empowering workout, but it’s not jarring on you at all.”
Kalz said the significance of bungee workouts are that the bungee cords add resistance to increase cardio intensity while lowering joint impact.
Participants will be fitted with a harness and attached to a bungee support system that best accommodates their weight and height. Those starting out will begin with a bungee foundation class, followed by additional levels of classes which allows participants to choose the intensity of their workout.
Those interested in signing up for bungee classes can choose from different passes or membership options, which must be purchased ahead of time to sign up for a session.
