NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – The University of New Orleans’ men’s basketball team is being examined by the school and the NCAA in an investigation related to sports gambling, according to a published report confirmed by Fox 8.
The university has called a news conference Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 11 a.m., in which rap music mogul Percy “Master P” Miller is to be introduced as the new president of basketball operations at UNO.
College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68 media network broke news of the sports gambling investigation Wednesday morning. Goodman said UNO has held out four of its top five scorers since a Jan. 27 loss to the University of The Incarnate Word.
Goodman reported the Privateers have benched leading scorer James White (19.2 points per game), Jah Short (9.2 ppg), Dae Dae Hunter (8.2 ppg) and Jamond Vincent (7.8 ppg) since that 74-58 loss. UNO trailed 38-20 after the first half of that game.
UNO is 4-17 overall and 2-8 in the Southland Conference and has lost eight consecutive games since the four players last played.

It was not immediately clear whether Miller’s new role is linked to the investigation. Miller is a former collegiate basketball player who has also coached an Amateur Athletic Union team to three national championships, the university said in a press release.
“This is a tremendously exciting day for the future of UNO Privateers basketball,” UNO coach Stacy Hollowell said in the statement. “I am thrilled to add Coach Percy Miller to our staff as president of basketball operations.
“Coach Miller cares deeply about his city, the University of New Orleans and Privateers basketball. We will benefit from his basketball knowledge and his relationships with people within the city and the game.”
