While Devers didn’t look great in the series with the Mets, you have to like how he’s rebounded here against the White Sox. He has back to back games going higher than this projection – and managed to do so last game despite being pitched around. He’ll get a great Sunday matchup with Chris Flexen. Not only have the Southsiders lost Flexen’s last 20 starts, but Devers also has good history against him. He’s 4-for-7 in his career against Flexen with three of those four hits going for extra bases.
LaMonte Wade Jr. has not been hot like Devers recently, which is why the projection is just half of a base. However, we’re again playing the head-to-head game with hitters here. Wade will get Joe Musgrove, who he’s seen a lot of. He’s a career 8-for-23 (.348) on his career against him and is slugging .652 in that sample. All we’re looking for here is one single, and I like his chances to break out a bit.
Chris Sale usually starts off hot in games and I feel like this is a great spot to get a couple of early whiffs. While the Blue Jays are near the top of the league in limiting strikeouts, they haven’t been so good at it late. In fact, they are averaging 11.0 strikeouts per game over their last three. With the NL leader in strikouts on the bump (he’ll be the major league leader by the end of the day), a couple of early Ks should be in the cards.
