On Wednesday, it was announced that five-star Class of 2025 star Caleb Wilson had cancelled his official visit to Alabama. That visit was scheduled for this upcoming weekend and is not expected to be re-scheduled.
While this is an interesting tidbit in itself, it got even more intriguing a few hours later.
Wilson isn’t planning on just sitting around this weekend. Instead, he has made other plans, as he announced on social media that he will be visiting Chapel Hill.
This will be the second visit to North Carolina for Wilson, who took his official visit on the weekend of February 3. During his official visit, the 6-foot-9 forward was in attendance for the UNC basketball program’s victory over rival Duke. As student-athletes can only make one official visit to each campus, this visit will be an unofficial one for one of the top-10 players in the Class of 2025.
This is very interesting news, especially given that we haven’t heard much about his recruitment regarding where the Tar Heels stand. It now appears that the UNC basketball program may be in a strong position in his recruitment as they’ll now have another opportunity to show him that Chapel Hill is the right place for him.
With Derek Dixon already committed to the UNC basketball program, adding an elite talent like Wilson would be a major addition for next year’s squad. While it’s far from confirmed that Wilson is Chapel Hill bound, it’s a great sign to see him not only cancel a visit to another school but to see him utilize that newly found free time to schedule another trip to North Carolina.
