BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The countdown to Christmas is on! As many of you head out for some last-minute shopping, the UAB Police Department is sharing tips on how to stay safe while purchasing gifts for your loved ones.
Officers emphasize that even if you think no one is watching, there are eyes on you. They urge shoppers to be vigilant and pay attention to their surroundings at all times. If something doesn’t feel right, don’t hesitate to call the police.
Here are some additional safety tips:
– When parking, choose well-lit areas.
– Protect your belongings by keeping your wallet, keys, and other valuables in your front pockets.
– For purses, opt for crossbody bags or fanny packs and ensure they are zipped shut.
Corporal Kimani George advises, “Don’t leave anything valuable in plain sight inside your car. Make sure to lock your doors. If you are going from one store to another, put any purchased items in your trunk. You never know who might be watching you and following you with the intent to steal.”
Another option to enhance your security is to pay digitally using your phone. This way, you won’t have to worry about pickpockets.
