Running your errands and driving around town, you pass by the same places over and over again. You pass by them so often that you don’t give them a second thought.
We take it for granted that a sandwich shop we visit from time to time is going to be there because it’s been there for at least 30 years.
Last week, while on my way into the radio station, I happened to notice two large yellow signs with black block lettering saying “Please visit our other 2 locations” in front of a sandwich shop that I enjoyed eating at on WSW Loop 323 in Tyler.
This sign was accompanied by another that read,
‘Schlotzsky’s CLOSED‘

The place with a funny name that serves up the serious sandwich suddenly closed down on Tyler‘s WSW Loop. No more small turkey bacon club. No more pepperoni pizza. No more medium The Original, please hold the black olives.
Gone. Just like that, overnight.
Of course, I drove through the parking lot looking at the building, and I noticed they were doing a lot of painting. I did a Google search of the Tyler locations, and this one says ‘temporarily closed’.

Hopefully, they’re doing some remodeling, but my gut feeling says no because they’ve removed all branding from the building and painted over their marquee sign.
Last weekend, on my way out of Tyler heading to Longview, I was on ESE Loop 323 approaching Troup Hwy. and noticed that another sandwich shop had gone out of business and removed the branding for its building, too.
The Subway that sat next to Texas Roadhouse is no longer there. I don’t know how long it’s been closed. Frankly, in my opinion, I was amazed it was open for as long as it was because it was in a weird location all by itself.
Schlotzsky’s still has two locations in Tyler
Subway still has more than 15 locations, and McAlister’s recently opened a new location on Old Jacksonville Hwy.
So, there’s still plenty of places to pick up a sandwich, but nothing will beat that sourdough bread and pizza from Schlotzsky’s.
If you have any details on this location, please email me and let me know, and then I’ll update this article if the information can be made public, of course!

Once a year, McDonald’s gives me a reason to visit outside of breakfast, the McRib. After its farewell tour last year, the sandwich has made a glorious return.
