PORT ST. LUCIE ― Typically golfers who play together form a friendly bond and enjoy sharing the game. Two gals at PGA Golf Club found much more than that when they discovered they shared a dream to perform music again on stage.
With varied musical backgrounds, singer Cara Vietri and pianist Randi Finkelstein have been enjoying that dream for the past several years. The duo began performing at the Verano Community Clubhouse and recently at Encore at Tradition. They also have performed a number of programs for residents at area senior living facilities, Plans now are in the making to expand to varied audiences throughout the Treasure Coast.
Vietri is a New York native from Long Island who began playing the flute and piano in second grade. Voice lessons followed, and for years she performed in many college musical productions and later in community theatres.
“I met Randi through golf in Florida and we did a sing-a-long together at our clubhouse and started performing” said Vietri.
“Music is my life,” said Finkelstein, a retired music teacher from New Jersey. Raised in a family of musicians, she started at a young age playing (and still owns) her mom’s baby grand piano. She followed her love of music for four years of classical training at the Trenton State College in New Jersey. After retiring from teaching, Finkelstein developed an afterschool program where children performed a variety of musical styles while dancing to her choreography.
During these past few years, they have enjoyed entertaining senior residents with music performing more than 10 programs during the recent holiday season.
“We want to bring a little joy and happiness to the world right now,” said Finkelstein.
Vietri still remembers their first program for a small audience of seniors who stood for patriotic pieces with hands over their hearts singing along with the duo.
“The look on their faces brought up memories of our parents and brought tears to our eyes,” Vietri said.
Now, they want to widen their audiences throughout the Treasure Coast to include private parties, small venues, and community events offering a wide variety of music. The duo have technical experience and set up their own equipment at sites. They also have developed a video to share with potential clients.
