With less than 200 days until the start of the 2025 season — and spring ball right around the corner — two Michigan Wolverines were recently named as way-too-early first-team All-Americans by ESPN: safety Rod Moore and kicker Dominic Zvada.
Michigan is one of three Big Ten schools with multiple players named to the first-team, joining Ohio State and Penn State.
Moore was in a mentorship role with Michigan last season after tearing his ACL last spring. He announced his return for a fifth year of college football last month.
“If I ever got to play again, either this year or next year if I come back, the amount of plays that I could make — just by what I know, I’ll get,” Moore said on an In The Trenches podcast in October. “It’s different when you know what you’re going to get because you know what you’re going to get. You play faster. You don’t second guess yourself. I think I’ll play a lot better when I’m able to play again.”
Appearing in 37 games across three seasons, Moore has racked up 141 career tackles and six interceptions. One of those interceptions was likely the biggest play of his collegiate career, picking off Kyle McCord to help seal the Michigan victory over Ohio State in 2023.
In a season full of inconsistent performances by the Wolverines, Zvada was one of the few players they could always count on. He made 17-of-18 field goal attempts (94.4 percent) — including 7-of-7 from 50+ yards, including a career-best 56 yards — and 25-of-26 extra point attempts (96.2 percent). He was robbed of the Lou Groza Award, given to the best kicker in the country, but he’s likely one of the favorites to win the award in 2025.
Both Moore and Zvada coming back lifts the floor of this football team significantly. We at Maize n Brew are very excited to watch both these players thrive at the Big House in the fall.
