Our Place and Juvo Jobs, two tech-enabled startups in the Metro Atlanta area, are teaming up to bring new job opportunities to the disability community.
The two companies just announced a new partnership that will create a dedicated Employment Resource Hub, a single platform for families looking for employment information for their family members with disabilities, connect with employers and job coaches, and get access to Juvo Jobs’ local job-matching platform.
The partnership will also help families identify disability-friendly employers, provide educational resources for businesses on inclusive hiring practices, and facilitate direct job placements for individuals in the disability community.
“1 in every 4 households in the United States has an individual living with a disability and independent life skills is one of the biggest things families are facing. Talking with many families, employers, and other organizations, we found that a key to gaining independent life skills is employment,” Our Place’s Executive Director Megan Cortjens told Hypepotamus.
“We started with interviews where parents can hear from employers on what work might look like, what interviews might look like and more. Then we expanded our network of job coaches to be able to connect families with a job coach if necessary. Our next and final step was working with employers. With Our Place having a mission of getting disability families plugged into their communities we knew Juvo would be a perfect fit and already had the network of employers. About 6 months ago conversations began as to what working together could look like and shortly after the resource hub began to take way.”
Cortjens added that success with the partnership is helping employ individuals across the country find quality jobs close to home.
“With transportation being an obstacle at times for the disability community, finding a job that is right in their neighborhood is the key to success,” Cortjens added.
When Hypepotamus last spoke to the husband-and-wife team behind Juvo Jobs last summer, they had already seen 11 million job seekers come onto the platform to find hourly job opportunities. Our Place has helped over 2,000 families access the services and resources they need, Cortjens told Hypepotamus.
“Our mission at Juvo Jobs is to connect job seekers with meaningful employment opportunities within their own communities,” the Juvo Jobs team said in a statement. “We are excited to work with Join Our Place to ensure that individuals with disabilities can find jobs that fit their skills and needs, helping them thrive both personally and professionally.”
